Local Airracer In the Air

Chaffee County Times - Buena Vista's representative in the Reno Air Races, Jay Jones' Quadnickel, has started flight testing at the Buena Vista airport. The Reno Air Races are the world's premier event for air racers and a crowd of 200,000 is expected to watch the world's fastest motor sport. Quadnickel will compete in the International Formula One class for the third time in the four day event. "She's going well," Jay said. "I'm seeing 180 or 190 on the airspeed indicator, which is about 215 miles per hour. Maybe not as fast as we hoped, but good at this point." Alternate pilot and working with Jay on preparation of the air racer is Larry Lechner of Buena Vista. Major sponsors of Jay's entry to date are Loyd Hendrix, CopyCat Sunglasses, and Bob "Captain Crosswind" Schork. Bob earned his title "Captain Crosswind" for his skill in handling the difficult Buena Vista wind conditions in his locally based Cessna 210. Also supporting Quadnickel is Cal Anderson, Chief Weather Observer at the Buena Vista airport. Website support is being provided by tex-online.com, and for details and more information visit www.quadnickel.com.
